The judgement which was delivered by Justice Johnson at the the Old Bailey, London’s Central Criminal Court, in London has seen Senator Ike Ekweremadu getting sentenced to 9years and 8months in jail, while his wife received a 4years and 6months sentence.

Doctor Obeta who was also found guilty for being a part of the organ harvesting plot has also bagged 10years jail sentence.

Shortly before he sentenced the defendants, the Judge says organ harvesting is a “despicable trade” and all 3 defendants were involved in it.

 

 

Judge says Dr. Obinna Obeta lied on paperwork for his own kidney transplant in 2021 and knew “it was possible to manipulate and corrupt the regulatory system” in the UK. He says he agrees hospital “clinicians need to be alive to the risks” posed in cases like this.

 

 

Judge says he had considered making a substantial compensation order to the victim. But the victim is “adamant” he does not want any money from “the bad people”.

 

 

Judge says he is sure the risks were not “properly explained” to the victim and he was “deceived and pressurised” into donating a kidney.
