Popular Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun, better known as AY, has expressed his frustration over the continuous spread of false narratives about those associated with him.
This comes after a manipulated video surfaced online, making it appear as though he shared a kiss with May Edochie, the estranged wife of actor Yul Edochie. Reacting to the doctored clip, AY took to Instagram to condemn the trend of online misinformation and character assassination.
He referenced a previous incident involving BBNaija star Alex Unusual, who faced severe online backlash for her close association with him. AY lamented how those working with him or supporting his projects are often targeted with false allegations and smear campaigns.
In his post, he addressed Nigeria’s online community, urging content creators and influencers to use their talents for positive change rather than spreading harmful misinformation. He emphasized the need for unity, innovation, and mutual support in building a better society.
“The other time, it was poor Alex. Must you chase away everyone working with me or trying to earn an honest living through me?” AY questioned in his post.
He further praised Fly Air Peace for supporting his movie, The Waiter, using them as an example of how Nigerian businesses and individuals can contribute positively to the industry instead of tearing others down.
AY’s post has sparked reactions from fans and colleagues, with many supporting his stance against cyberbullying and fake news.
