Herdsmen attacks responsible for high rate of orphans in Benue- Ortom

Ortom blames Herdsmen for high rate of orphans in Benue.

The governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, said on Sunday that the state’s high rate of orphans was due to herdsmen attacks.

Ortom said this during a thanksgiving ceremony held by the family of Justice Polycarb Kwahar at the Evangelical Church Winning All, English LCB, Makurdi.

Orphanages and IDP camps around the state, according to the governor, are brimming with orphans with no hope for the future.

He said, “Some became orphans because terrorist Fulani herdsmen have killed their parents.

“Three years ago, my wife and I picked up four orphans from the Mama Abaypr Orphanage and we have been taking care of them since.”

Ortom asked well-meaning individuals to help orphans and vulnerable children.

He said, “I have orphans whom I have trained too. Some bear their parents’ names and some, who do not know their parents, bear my name.

“There are many orphans in IDP camps and many of them don’t even know their parents, because Fulani herdsmen came and killed them. You can make an impact in their lives and God will reward you.

“Those who are taking three square meals should remember the vulnerable people,” he stated.
