Sevilla head coach García Pimienta has praised Nigerian winger Chidera Ejuke for his decisive strike in their 1-0 win over Real Sociedad.
Ejuke netted the only goal of the match in the second half, clinically slotting the ball into the bottom right corner after a well-timed pass from Saúl Ñíguez.
The goal was his second of the season, complementing one assist in 17 league appearances.
Following the win, Pimienta acknowledged Ejuke’s return to form after a three-month injury layoff, emphasizing the challenges of regaining match fitness.
“When he got injured, he was in great form. He was practically out for three months, and getting back into shape takes time,” Pimienta told Sevilla’s official website.
The Sevilla boss also highlighted the competition within the squad, particularly with new signing Rubén Vargas.
However, Vargas’ absence due to a hip issue gave Ejuke the chance to impress.
“Vargas has been performing at a high level, so Ejuke had to wait. Today, Rubén’s injury gave him an opportunity, and he did very well.
“He also contributed defensively, which is important for the team. We are very happy for him.”
Ejuke’s recent form has earned him a spot in Nigeria’s 39-man provisional squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
