Nigerian lady drops out of UNILAG to start life afresh in Europe

A Nigerian lady has dumped her studies and relocated to a European country with the hope of forging a new path in life.

The lady identified as Falilat revealed that she left the University of Lagos while in her 3rd year and decided to travel to Finland.

According to her, she had spent four years seeking admission after finishing secondary school, so leaving her studies was one of the hardest decisions she had to make in her life, but she felt it was necessary considering how ASUU strike and other factors were frustrating her.

Falilat shared her story on micro-blogging platform, Twitter alongside photos of herself in Finland.

She wrote;

”One of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make in my life was to abandon my 3 years plus Unilag program after spending 4 years before getting in to start over in another country…

What led to this decision? Is it worth it? Would I do it again?

A thread Thread

The 2020 ASUU strike broke me. Before then, my experience was not the greatest, Nigeria federal university system almost took my precious life but I was determined to get my degree before pursuing education elsewhere.

“I asked myself this question, do I want to spend all of my 20s chasing a BSc degree?”

I began my research and realized private universities policies were not favorable for me so I decided to expand my horizon by applying abroad.

UK was my first choice but the UK is quite expensive for me to sustain.

I had a discussion with @Deshsmalls one night &he told me about Finland. This was November/December, I made up my mind in January to just do it anyway.

I concluded my application the following year & I got the residence permit. I couldn’t discuss with many people asides my boss as it seemed like a crazy idea, dealt with anxiety a lot.

Juggling Unilag, my Finland application, & working full time, I asked myself if I was doing the right thing? If it’ll be worth it?

It was not an easy decision but I can say for a fact that the experience is different and it makes it worth it for me. Indeed, khaki no be leather!

Big thanks to everyone thanks to my boss that believed in me when I stopped in myself, and everyone in my life that did not know much but were kind to me during this journey.”
