A Nigerian man has spent the last three years in prison despite committing no crime, after he was arrested while visiting a friend and spending the night at his house.
This was revealed in a social media post shared by a Nigerian lawyer, who made the discovery during a pro bono visit to a correctional facility.
According to the lawyer, the man was arrested alongside his friend and has remained behind bars ever since, even though he committed no offence.
The lawyer wrote: “Someone went to visit his friend and spent the night at his place. He was arrested alongside his friend and for the past three years, he has not returned home because he is still at the Custodial Centre for an offence he never committed.”
The post quickly gained attention online, with many concerned Nigerians flooding the comment section to express their outrage and share their opinions on the injustice.
