Kuje prison escapee recaptured in Suleja

The police in Niger state have recaptured one of the inmates who escaped from the Kuje Custodial Centre, Kazeem Murtala.

According to a statement by Niger Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the 54-year-old man was arrested in a compound in Bakasi area in Suleja based on credible intelligence.

The inmate was arrested around 10.30 pm on Saturday, the statement stated.

When interrogated by the police, the inmate confessed that he escaped from Kuje Custodial Centre during the attack where he was serving a jail term after conviction for an offense he committed.

He added that he had been in the custody for the past two years.

Niger Commissioner of Police Monday Bala Kuryas, who commended the efforts of the patrol team, appreciated members of the public for providing the intelligence that led to the capture of the inmate.
