The 41-year-old businesswoman filed the documents on Friday, which, if approved by a judge, will legally declare her a single woman.
She also wants to revert to her maiden name, omitting the ‘West,’ which will separate matters of child custody and property from marital status.
Laura Wasser, the reality star’s lawyer, is said to have handled similar issues for other high-profile clients like Dr. Dre and Kelly Clarkson, according to TMZ.
Because legal proceedings are expected to take a long time, this approach permits celebrities to go about their lives in the meantime.
The announcement comes after rapper Kanye West made a series of public pleads for his ex-wife to take him back.
