In Niger, a drug-addicted son sets his mom ablaze.
Mrs. Comfort Jiya, a former principal at Government Girls Secondary School in Sabon Wuse and Maryam Babangida Girls Science College in Minna, was set on fire by her biological son, Steven Jiya.
The incident occurred in Minna, the capital of Niger State.
Steven, who is alleged to be a drug addict, is said to have returned from Suleja, also in Niger State, on Monday and poured fuel on his mother in her kitchen at her home in Minna’s Darusalam Area.
Mrs. Jiya died Friday afternoon at Minna General Hospital, where she was getting treatment, according to a family source.
Another source told our correspondent that Steven had attempted to harm his mother multiple times before succeeding when he poured fuel on her.
DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the Public Relations Officer for the Niger State Police Command, could not be reached for comment at the time this report was made.
A Minna high court has already remanded Steven. He had been arraigned in court by the GRA Police Division in Minna.
