Lady loses job for calling interviewer on Sunday to ask questions

An interviewer sparked outrage after revealing that he withdrew a job offer from a candidate simply because she called him on a Sunday to ask follow-up questions.

The X user, identified as @femigibbs, took to the platform to share his reasoning, stating that the call disrupted his time in church and reflected poorly on the candidate’s suitability for the role.

“I interviewed someone yesterday, she called me this morning while I was in church to ask some questions she forgot to ask during the interview,” he wrote.

According to him, he had already planned to send her an offer letter by Tuesday but decided against it after the call.

“During an interview, you’ll be asked if you have any questions. That’s the time to ask all the questions you’ve prepared beforehand. If you call the interviewer after the interview because you forgot to ask a question, then it shows you’re not a good fit,” he added.

His revelation quickly went viral, drawing backlash from social media users who criticized him for being unprofessional and unnecessarily harsh. Many argued that rejecting a candidate over such a minor issue was unfair and indicative of a toxic workplace culture.

An X user @TIOlatunde reacted, “Many individuals (not only job seekers) never learn the basic ethics of life. It’s quite appalling. Let her know you don’t appreciate it. If you will, please let it not affect her job offer.”

Another user @h_abibah stated, “You’re a terrible person jare, small hr position don enter your head.”

@Tintedeyekay added, “This is the problem with Nigerian hiring organisations. There’s zero encouragement for open communication. Should she have called you during your personal hours? No? Could this be corrected during her onboarding process? Yes? You want to let a prospect go because of this?”
